Lucas Oil Stadium
and
Persons with Disabilities

Lucas Oil Stadium Overview

Lucas Oil Stadium is a fully accessible facility.  All entrances into the stadium are accessible.  Guests may use ramps, elevators and escalators to move between all levels. Accommodations for persons with disabilities include family restrooms, accessible ticket and concession counters, first-come, first-serve designated parking, assistive listening devices and wheelchair availability.

In the RCA Dome, wheelchair-accessible seating was cordoned off in separate sections that required a separate entrance to access.

But the new stadium allows fans in wheelchairs to sit in nearly every section.
The stadium's handicapped-accessible seats are sprinkled in the first and last rows of most sections, providing options for nearly all views and prices. The stadium has more than 1,100 seats set aside for those with disabilities and their family or friends

Please continue reviewing this document for a full array of accommodations and amenities for people with disabilities.

Loading & Unloading Points

Guests may be dropped off and/or picked up on the southwest corner pull-through location off of Missouri Street, or on the northeast side of the stadium, on Capitol Avenue by the Colts Pro Shop.

Please refer to the Parking map for further information.

Parking

Lucas Oil Stadium owns and operates multiple parking lots surrounding the stadium. All guests are encouraged to arrive early in an attempt to secure parking that most accommodates their needs.

Additional Parking for Disabled Now Available for Colts Games

9/19/2008

Disabled Colts fans will have some new options for parking for this Sunday's game at Lucas Oil Stadium. Officials with the Indiana Stadium and Convention Building Authority say between 125-150 new spaces are available.

The three areas are on a first-come, first serve basis and will be available two hours before kickoff.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Captain Mike Bates says the spots are along the 100 block of West Merrill Street and portions of the 600-800 block of Russell Avenue, between Merrill and McCarty Streets.

That is the north side of West Merrill Street, between Illinois Street and Capitol Avenue, and along parts of Russell Avenue between Merrill and McCarty streets- a block from the stadium.

Bates says the State of Indiana has also freed up some parking for the disabled. Those spots will cost a small fee.

Bates says this is a response to concerns about adequate parking for the disabled, following the first few events at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Lucas Oil Stadium also encourages guests with disabilities to evaluate the event in which they are attending in order to assist themselves in determining arrival time to the stadium area.

The primary accessible parking location is located in the South Lot with access off of Missouri Street on the west side of the stadium. A valid placard or license plate is required for access to these spaces. Spaces will be available for purchase during events and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Seating/Seating Relocation

Lucas Oil Stadium is pleased to provide fully integrated accessible seating for fans with disabilities and their guests. Guests with disabilities are encouraged to select their choice of seats from a wide array of options provided by the stadium.

Guests with disabilities holding non-accessible tickets are invited to any ticket window of the ticket office to request the exchange of their ticket that appropriately meets their needs (The Ticket Office is located in the southeast corner of Street Level, across from Section 118).

New stadium to have improved disabled parking

August 1, 2008

Fans with disabilities should find ample handicapped parking spots near Lucas Oil Stadium when it opens.

Parking marked for use by the disabled will be set up close to the stadium's four main gates.

"There is going to be some parking on the south side, on the north side, kind of all around," said Greg Fehribach, a stadium consultant. He is making sure the facility complies with the Americans With Disabilities Act, which sets requirements for handicapped accessibility in buildings used by the public.

Handicapped parking arrangements at Lucas Oil should be more convenient for users than they were at the RCA Dome, where there was only an official lot for the disabled, Fehribach said. That lot was just south of the dome, reachable by a ramp running under elevated railroad tracks.

Lucas Oil is adjacent to a large parking lot with about 1,000 spaces. Plans call for that lot to contain one handicapped spot for every 25 spaces, Fehribach said.

Because parking spots around the stadium aren't yet laid out and marked in paint, Fehribach said he doesn't know the exact number of handicapped parking spaces that will be set aside.

"We're still trying to run the math on that," said Fehribach, who is working with the Indianapolis Colts, the Indianapolis Capital Improvement Board and the Indiana Stadium & Convention Building Authority on issues dealing with handicapped accessibility.

Fehribach said fans with state-issued license plates or hang tags identifying them as disabled will be eligible to park in the special parking spots.

He said the Colts, along with state and city officials who are building and operating the stadium, have been open to dealing with issues involving the disabled.

"I'm thrilled with everybody's participation and continued diligence," he said.
